I Have A Secret
Although I had often seen warning signs, along the beach, to protect nesting snowy plovers, I had never actually seen one. Point Blue biologist Kriss Neuman, kindly clued me in during a visit to the Salinas River Wildlife Refuge. These small feisty shore birds are invisible until they start moving. This nesting plover was repeatedly pointed out to me until I actually saw it, and the eggs are camouflaged beyond belief. No wonder their nests are trampled! Dogs and Peregrine falcons however, are not so easily fooled.
