This California gull was standing on a bed of mussels and barnacles, seemingly impervious to their jagged edges and the pounding waters that crashed on the rocks, threatening to wash him away while he fed. I found out later that gulls eat starfish along with the rest of the rock’s inhabitants.

Each woodcut is an original. The inking and hand pulling processes are labor intensive, contributing lovely individual differences and insuring a small edition size.
