A Brief Rest

I watched this bear moving through the tall grass in Yellowstone National Park. Wanting to create a print to capture this memory, I made an intricate 15 color woodcut, adding a stream for interest. When I had almost completed the color edition, I decided to pull a simple print just to see what was left. I had to laugh. The single color had a more powerful impact upon me then the much more complicated edition. Because there was not enough left of the plate to pull the full final image, I carved a whole other plate in order to print , “A Brief Rest”.

Each piece is an original. The inking and hand pulling processes contribute lovely individual differences. For shipping, artwork is wrapped in archival paper and shipped flat. Framed prints are available through my galleries. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
